Cardano NFT Column: AdaQuest – The Cryptonomist

This week’s guest on the Cardano NFT column is a project developing a NFT-based RPG with competitive game modes: AdaQuest.

Guest of last week was a collectible card game (TCG) project reminiscent of famous TCGs like “Magic: The Gathering” and “Yu-Gi-Oh!”.

This initiative is a benchmark for NFT on Cardano and every week or two we’ll invite someone over to answer a few questions and give us a update directly from the Cardano community.

Considering many of our readers are new to the crypto space, we will have a mix of simple and technical questions.

Hi, glad to have you here. Please introduce your team, where are you from and what is your background?

We are Red Potion Studios, mainly based in Germany and Austria, but working with people all over the world. The core team worked for AAA Publisher as THQ, Ubisoft Where EA.

Artistic direction: Christian is our Illustrator and UX Designer with more than 15 years of professional work in digital art, gamification, interface and application design in industry. Starting out as a big fan of classic “point & click” adventures (e.g. Monkey Island, Beneath a Steel Sky, Day of the Tentacle) on DOS and amassing tons of comics, he turned his geeky hobby into an ever-expanding full-time job!

Game design and balance: Alex worked as creative director at Ubisoftand as lead developer of Faith and Honor Barbarossa. He has considerable experience in finding psychological and neurological sweet spots in game-based learning. With over 4 years of experience in game design, Alex is designed to bring the best gaming experience to AdaQuest!

Technical Manager : Dirk worked for Ubisoftfounded two game studios as head of development and currently works as Technical Architect. He’s the go-to guy, good at anything tech-related. In addition to managing and tracking our stake pool, it does its magic to lay the groundwork for our project.. 20 years of experience! IF var string = “are you looking for a coder?” THEN result = “Dirk”.

Strategic Advisor & Founder: Marcin has worked in marketing, sales and project management for THQ, Ubisoft, CI Games, Daedalic Entertainment and Rockstar. Over the past 10 years, he has helped some start-ups in their early stage, and he will also provide advice to the Cardano gaming community!

What is AdaQuest? And why did you choose the Cardano blockchain in particular for your gaming project?

Let’s face it! What we’re missing right now are games that will give you the chance to experience the deep dive, immersion and vibe of the world you interact with.

With AdaQuest and as an independent game studio, we will bring that experience back. A fantasy world where our large hand drawn NFTs will not only have a use case, but will also empower players to own, evolve, and expand their domain. Without being afraid that one day a publisher – or even the game studio – could take the achievements they earn by spending every hour in Ada’s world.

Imagine taking the best of various RPG game modes of the past 30 years and the creation of a new game experience. Imagine that you also have 30 years of experience in the field of pen and paper!

It’s AdaQuest! Because the AdaQuest team has this experience. Not only in the segment of pure leisure and leisure, but also in the professional environment.

What makes it special is on-chain management of the entire player inventory on the Blockchain Cardano. This means that almost everything (except basic items) that a player earns in AdaQuest in terms of valuable items belongs to the player forever! No more worrying about someone shutting down servers or deciding to ban items forever. AdaQuest, at least in late development, is meant to be a modding-friendly project.

Besides this singularity, the first three game modes are designed to intertwine. Giving today’s modern gamers/people the choice to play their favorite roleplaying game or interact with the community at every opportunity. Each mode can of course be played independently, however, you get the best experience when you enjoy all three RPG related modes. (Mobile Arena and Quests, Dungeon Crawler, Skirmish Battleground)

And why Cardan?

First the The staking mechanism in Cardano allows us to interact with the community and supporters of AdaQuest. Proof of stake is absolutely secure and we, as a single stake pool operator, will never lock your ADA like the big exchanges.

Second, in order to take full advantage of the Blockchain Cardano, the introduction of our own native token was only a matter of time. We knew that if we wanted to exist as a pool of participations, such a system would be inevitable. We can already see how wonderfully this mechanism we invented will also affect AdaQuest. People seem to like our NO Pay2Win approach. Therefore, the QuestToken will not only be a reward system for long-time supporters, but will also take into account each of our supporters. The QuestToken will never affect game mechanics.

Finally, we think the past few weeks have shown us cases of blockchain and how terrible poor technology design can be in this environment. The one and only stable, safe and secure answer to this is Cardano!

What is Play-to-Earn? What do you think of this phenomenon in the game? How does AdaQuest fit into it?

We love the term P2Loot After. What we don’t like is the aspect of the game with certain projects and also to focus only on this aspect of the game. AdaQuest is more about the game itself. We are game-devs, but also gamers! That’s why we decided for a F2Play mode without paywalls. But of course, you will be able to get NFTs as a drop in AdaQuest.

Moreover we think that the future of NFT gaming will “split” the target group into three camps. On one side are the real players, who truly enjoy competition, adventure, and real, deep game mechanics. On the other hand the the players, who like to flip a coin and focus on the winning mechanism. The last group will be gambling and betting hybrid. We believe that in order to compete as a games business, you need to build an experience that serves both parties equally!

We sat down and watched many current so-called F2Play games. Especially those using blockchain technology. More than 90% of these successful titles are only “playable” with a considerable financial effort on the part of the player. We quickly came to the conclusion that we wanted to do things differently. We’ve taken Epic Games’ Fortnite as a model here. In this game, there are only cosmetic virtual items that do not make the player better or worse. Whether you’re playing a superhero or an alien banana, the skill of the player is crucial, not his wallet!

Now AdaQuest is not a Battle Royale shooter, and we don’t have the resources of Epic Games, however. Alex and Christian have worked out a mechanic with our whole team that constantly focuses on fairness.

How is the development of AdaQuest going? When will it be possible to play the game?

Constant! From the beginning, our approach is not to overestimate the project and grow healthy. So we don’t like to promise a lot and deliver less. Currently we are in the last sprint to complete our Alpha mobile WebApp (duel mode) and integrate NFT items. We applaud loudly for June 2022

Over the past 6 months, we’ve spent a lot of time building tools and hiring people that will drive the development of AdaQuest this year. Since creating a game is not an “industrial” procedure and everything is always in motion, things can break, take longer or require a different approach, to deliver a fun experience in the end.

Please keep in mind that we are also in the design phase of our Phase 2 (dungeon crawler) including the creation of a prototype 🙂

Great! A final thought? Where can people find you?

The best way is to visit our Discord or follow us on Twitter Where Youtube.
